Gang Investigators Associations are a very valuable asset to any law enforcement or corrections officer who works or deals with gangs and gang members in the daily performance of their duty.
These associations may be a statewide organization or a regional organization whereas members may be from all of the states within a particular geographic region. Most associations will accept all active or retired law enforcement officers from within or outside of the state or region.
Membership is inexpensive and benefits vary from association to association but generally a member will receive publications that address the gang problem at the local, state, regional and national levels. Many associations, via the Internet, share timely information or you may ask questions concerning any gang related matter to include gang signs, symbols, tattoos, etc., laws, or community programs to assist in deterring/preventing gang growth
Many associations are capable of providing gang identification training either at the local level for a departmental request, or through state, regional or national level seminars. Frequently, instructors and presenters come from many areas of the country and each is a gang expert or has expertise in a particular gang related field.
